Coming into this class in the beginning, I was intrigued and excited about blogging all my papers. I've taken other english classes before and the standard policies of submitting written documents for grading became a dull process. That is when I read the syllabus posted and that we're going to be operating on a virtual medium, blogspot.com, I was thrilled.
However, it was harder than I thought it would be. Immediately in my first blog, I realized there were plenty of grammar and spelling errors. I was so used to the Microsoft spell check that I just kept typing without realizing my mistakes. I had to go back and check my spelling and grammar, making sure everything was correct.
As I continue blogging, I found myself hesitating to type what I want to say. Knowing that my classmates can have access to "graded work," was kind of intimidating. It almost became a competition, to see who can blog the better blog. So I pulled up Microsoft Word and typed my entire blog there with the thought that I will turn this in paper. Then copy and paste it to blogspot.com. Eventually by my second blog, I just decided to go with it. However, due to my awareness, I proof-read my blog to see if their is a coherent flow of ideas.
Thus, blogging had forced me to really know what I am typing as well as typing it correctly and logically.
Although the experience of blogging was enjoyable, the absence of a prompt was not. I understand that we were to blog on whatever that is relevant to what we were discussing in class. However, with so many options, I found it hard to choose. I also found it hard to provide a in-depth analysis of some topics due to my inexperiences with some of them.
My group project on Americansingles.com required a lot of time and effort outside of class but it was part of the enjoyable experiences in this class. I learned a lot about the assumptions of ideologies and the impact of technology and the media.
Overall, this was a great and challenging class and it has definitely improve my writing experience.
